Macrophotograph showing the iridescent colors of ammolite (Placenticeras sp.). Ammolite is composed of the fossilized shells of ammonites, a group of extinct marine mollusks. This specimen is late Cretaceous in age (70 million years) and is from the Bearpaw Formation in Alberta, Canada.
